“Job analysis
deals with the anatomy of the job…..This is the complete study of the job embodying
every known and determinable factor, including the duties and responsibilities
involved in its performance; the conditions under which performance is carried
on; the nature of the task; the qualifications required in the worker; and the
conditions of employment such as pay, hours, opportunities and privileges.”Harry L. Wylie
What is job analysis?
First
step of the recruitment process is carry out job analysis Job analysis is the
in-depth investigation of the job duties and knowledge, skills, abilities, and
personal characteristics essential to fulfill a certain job position available.
Job evaluation involves two secretive documents, namely, Job description and
personal specification.
Job analysis Process
Job Description.
A job
description or JD is a written document that describes the overall
responsibilities. It may also specify the functionary to whom the position
reviews, specifications which include the qualifications or competencies wanted
by the individual inside the activity, data about the device, equipment ,work
aids used, running situations, physical demands, and salaries.
Personal Specification
Personal Specification is a
written document that describes challenges that an occupation up-and-comer must
have to achieve and to reduce the errors of a position offered by an
organization. This documents which describes the person’s
skills and education requirement for the position.

Importance of carrying out job analysis are:

Carrying out a job analysis provides
valuable job related information such as job duties and responsibilities, risks
and hazards involved with the job, skills and abilities needed in order to
perform the job, etc…

Job analysis helps the HR managers in
identifying who is the right employee to successfully employ a specific job.
·
Job analysis assists managers in comparing
the desired output with the actual output of the employees and conduct
effective performance appraisals
·
Job analysis assists in identifying
employee training and development needs
·
Job analysis assists managers in deciding
the suitable compensation packages and other allowances and benefits for a
specific job position.
Disadvantages of carrying out job analysis are:

Job analysis process is time consuming
·
It includes a lot of human effort.
·
Involves personal business.
·
If job analysis is not done in the correct
manner, it will cost wastage for the company.
·
Mental abilities such as emotional
characteristics, knowledge and intellect cannot be directly evaluated
